Athidhi sathkaaram

Most of the actors who live in huge palatial homes don’t even offer a cup of tea to visitors. I’m not saying this, it’s a regular visitor’s observation. I’ve always been asked if I wanted tea, coffee, water etc. Some ask the moment you plonk on their plush sofas and some ask only before you leave… “meeru emi pucchukuledhu.” Stars, thanks to their well bred parents send for trays of chai before the stars make their appearance and if you are from a national daily or you represent a popular mumbai mag, the star’s son/daughter himself/herself bring the glass of juice and offer it to you while you think, “so sweet of him/her naa! He/she is so humble!”. In a popular actor’s home you are offered water, tea, coffee, coke depending on the relationship you share with him. Sometimes even a ‘relative’ is not offered tea, they are just given water. This has apparently been done to snub the visitor. What more, even if you go visiting you are asked the reason for giving the darshan. Talking of courtesy, Rajashekar once thrusted a few ‘foreign’ chocolates into my hand and said please atleast idhaina teesukondi. So when desi treatment has become a rarity how could I refuse that foreign chocolate?
