Antha kallathone..

Kamal Hassan and JyotikaNew York lo streets chaala busy ga unnayi and Jyotika wants company to go and eat, infact she wants Kamal to accompany her. “I was about to ask you out for breakfast,” he says. “Good,” says Jyotika, “Ikkada antha american foode dorukuthindi, I know one Indian cafe let’s go there,” antadhi. Both of them chat over a tall glass of orange juice kaani table meedha camera clear ga sandwichni choopisthundi. Anyways both the girls look good and both of them communicated well with their big eyes. I liked the number where Jyo and Kamal walk nonchalantly and there are a group of models who sing and dance behind. Comedy assalu ledhu, a serious film.

Insane and hopeless

At the rate at which our websites are covering news…particulary the death of a person connected with a celebrity, looks like very soon we will have a live coverage of the film star’s, director’s dogs and cats dying, the cremation and their respective 11th day ceremonies. One TV channel showed Puri Jagannath grieving over his maavayya passing away, consoling his child and how the filmi people stood, folding their hands and the solemn moments were for the public albeit recorded in the ‘entertainment’ section. So when did a personal tragedy become an entertainment for the TV channel?

Tribute or insult?

Amitabh BachchanAt Lakshmikala theatre, Moosapet the audiences hurled abuses at Ramgopal Verma for dishing out a film that not only is a insult to Sholay but also for the delay in release of prints. The morning shows were cancelled in many theatres this morning. I thankfully saw Raghavan and going by the reports my sincere condolences for those who have immolated themselves in RGV Ki Aag.

One wonders why RGV’s films and sequels and remakes are stuffed with promising plot lines, curvaceous bodies, bionic new villains, great stunts and dazzling effects. But it is starved of a single ounce of drama. Why does the Factory fail so many times and the workers never learn their lessons? This Aag is for sure a daag on RGV’s resume.

Apology to a friend: I’m sorry for forcing you to watch this film, inflicting so much pain and all I can do is to request Ramgopal Verma to go on a long holiday to do some soul-seraching.

Waiting for Chiru’s ‘yes’

ChiranjeeviIt is great news for all those who want Chiranjeevi to jump into politics. Great news not because he has announced, great because he has laid to rest all those remarks that he is some kind of goda meedha pilli, indecisive and apprehensive.

Many actors say that they have a lot to achieve and every day is a different day for them when they step into the studio to take up a new role. But in reality it does get boring for actors, atleast for Chiranjeevi; he once told me that monotony is creeping into his work.

Even if you put in 100 percent effort when the script is not right, when things are not in your control, none can save your films. Even fans can’t make it run for many days. Chiranjeevi has perhaps decided he had his share of success in films and probably wishes to see his son’s career take a shape.

It’s now or never for Chiranjeevi. Heard he’s using this period to take reports, to assess remarks and in general do all the spade work before arriving at a conclusion. The only thing that’s weighing heavily on his mind is..that he doesn’t want to alienate any section of the society and squander away all the good will he has accumulated over the years.

But it is difficult to please all the people. With minimum damage, minimum risk the actor probably wants to launch a party that will not only be something ideal and fresh but also elevate the image he has as a social worker in the society.

There are many politicians like Mulayam Singh, Mayavati waiting for his word and more than 50 MLAs could readily move to his side. And money, there is no dearth and about 100 crores can be easily accumulated to fund the launch of a new party. All those will fall in place automatically, but what some bigwigs in film nagar say is that the actor has to first do away with some so called devotees who bad mouth him the moment Chiranjeevi is out of sight.

A small journey between life and death

Sharwanand and NareshKrish Jagar is happy with the output. The debutant had directed couple of short films and one of it is called “India Undivided” about Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi. About the current film, he tells TCP, “It is a love journey, jananam maranam madhya lo unna chinna prayanam. Sharwanand (Abhiram) is the rich guy.. who meets Gaali Seenu (Naresh) and they travel together.

In the process of the journey, the destination becomes a travel and the search is Janaki (Kamalini). Confusing? It is not a triangular love story but a story of love. Till then for Abhiram, jananam ante asayam, he is happy with his family and girl friend but hates others around. For him, life is all about himself. He doesn’t believe in sharing. But in this travel, he sees the world through a different perspective sees it through the eyes of Gaali Seenu.”

Krish adds, “Sandeep Gunnam suggested Sharwanand, I saw him during Amma Cheppindhi shooting and also I got a strong support from Hari Anmol; he said Sharwa fits the bill. The film releases for Dussera and the audio is slated for mid September.”

Dil Raju signs a three film deal with UTV.

Winds of change - Chak De India

Shah Rukh KhanI saw Chak De India today at Prasads. The occupancy was very poor and the bomb scare seems to have hit the movie goers really hard. We need one big film, really big film to get back the people to the theatres. Chirutha and Athidi’s release might help ease the situation. There is also Krishna Vamsi’s Chandamama.

As far as Chak De India is concerned I’m really glad that director Shimit Amin gave us a film that is about achievement in the face of failure; it’s a film that looks at failure in a very positive way. And Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement in this film will give us the much deserved spotlight on women’s sport in india.

Women’s sport need to be made more visible through promotion and sponsorship. Both the government and corporates should join hands. That will be a win-win situation for all. I’m sure Chake De India will help. Let’s face it, we talk about women’s cricket, but not women’s hockey. If there is adequate coverage, it might generate a buzz, I don’t know how much a movie can help women’s sport but if it sets the right trend it’s welcome.

I was offered Chandramukhi: Simran

SimranSimran looks stunning. Stripped of make up and her hair neatly knotted, she exudes radiance and contentment. “I’ve lost twenty seven kilos in a span of one year, it wasn’t easy and I’m feeling so good now,” says Simran. The actress is in town listening to scripts, finalising her next move and in between finds time to chat up with her two year old son on the phone in Delhi.

Simran says she was never under any pressure to prove herself or to sustain the success. “There was hardly an trepidation because I had always given my hundred percent to what ever I did, I chose my scripts, costumes, banners and most importantly never allowed anyone to pamper me. I had worked with Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna and Venkatesh but I always reminded myself that I’m just a part of the team not a star.”

God has his own plans and when the time is right, he leads you to your destiny. Simran had known her husband Deepak for twenty years now, he’s been a childhood friend, she married him when the going was good in movies. She says, “My parents wanted me to have a personal life as well and I also had my priorities right. Yes, I quit when I was doing well and lot of people were taken aback by the swiftness of my decision. I have always followed my instinct and I just knew that Deepak was the man for me. He is caring and very supportive, and I have help at home to take care of my son.”

Does she regret missing on lot of good films? “I don’t regret any missed opportunity. Some people might feel deprived, but I feel blessed. I have a wonderful family and nothing can be more important than that. I was offered Chandramukhi and even shot for three days and the next day I had to wrap the project because I realized I was pregnant. I am sure opportunities will come again; I believe if you are talented enough, people will come back to you. I’m not willing to compromise on my price, I know I can deliver the goods be it an item number or for that matter any role. I can carry myself very well. Are baba there is a difference between an actress doing an item number and a non-actress doing it.”

What about her much publicized political ambitions? Simran says, “It was a big mistake. Given a chance I would rectify it but at the moment I’m not interested. I’m looking forward to the release of the two films I’ve committed to…Okka Magaadu and John Apparao 40+. The latter with Krishna Bhagawan is a hilarious movie and we both play lead roles, there is no romance between us.” What about Tamil movies? “They all want me but they think I’m asking too much. It’s upto them. It felt really good to see people mobbing me in Tirupati and Chennai, they all want me back. I can work only fifteen days a month and one movie at a time.” All said and done she feels gratified to have made her point. She stops talking and smiles. She has never looked lovelier.

Devudu dhigi vosthe..

VishnuDhigi votcche lopala Vishnu changed his heroine. Looks like that atleast because someone tells me heroine didn’t come to the sets this morning. Vishnu tells TCP that his hair stylist charges 16 thousand per day to maintain that look. Aa style lo emundhani jaagrattha ga choosanu and I offered to exchange my job with the hair stylist. My interest ended there. Rohini walked with her thaali bottu in full display blissfully unaware of the jokes a few were cracking on the sets. Her make up man was so similar to Bobby Darling. Yes, the title of the film is Devudu dhigi vosthe. TCP sources also reveal that Ileana is under consideration for Bellamkonda-Vishnu film.
