Winds of change - Chak De India
I saw Chak De India today at Prasads. The occupancy was very poor and the bomb scare seems to have hit the movie goers really hard. We need one big film, really big film to get back the people to the theatres. Chirutha and Athidi’s release might help ease the situation. There is also Krishna Vamsi’s Chandamama.
As far as Chak De India is concerned I’m really glad that director Shimit Amin gave us a film that is about achievement in the face of failure; it’s a film that looks at failure in a very positive way. And Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement in this film will give us the much deserved spotlight on women’s sport in india.
Women’s sport need to be made more visible through promotion and sponsorship. Both the government and corporates should join hands. That will be a win-win situation for all. I’m sure Chake De India will help. Let’s face it, we talk about women’s cricket, but not women’s hockey. If there is adequate coverage, it might generate a buzz, I don’t know how much a movie can help women’s sport but if it sets the right trend it’s welcome.
