It’s been months since Chitra had breakfast
Fifteen year old Chitra is in the tenth standard. She lives in Jagadgirigutta in KPHB with her parents and her brother, sister. Her father is a post graduate (MA), lost money in finance business and has been staying at home for many years. He did work in a company but left the job as he didn’t like the work. He will resume working only when he finds the ‘right’ job. Chitra’s mother works as a domestic help and struggles to run the family. Chitra, her sister, brother have dropped outof studies when they couldn’t pay the fee. The community volunteers have forced Chitra’s mother to send the children back to a school run by Dr Reddys. They all are attending school now but without breakfast (once in a while they get to drink tea), they wait till 1.30 for their mother to come back from work and feed them. One wishes the man in the house shares the burden to give these kids a decent living.
