Konchem touch lo unte…..

It always helps to have a whacky title for your film and if the tagline is interesting there is bound to be a curiosity factor. A telugu film journalist once asked Sivaji what his next film was and he replied, “Konchem Touch Lo Unte Cheptanu.” The journalist took the hint and pulled out the cell phone to feed in his number and Sivaji was puzzled  why he the journalist was seeking his phone number when he already has it. It later struck him that Sivaji was actually telling him that the title actually was Konchem Touch Lo Unte Cheptanu.

Titles can not only be misleading (Seenu Gadu..Chiranjeevi fan) but disappointing as well. Fans may flock to the theatres expecting some real content but might realize by the interval that it was a mere trick to bring the crowds to the theatre. Though one might succeed in drawing initial collections it will mainly end up being some B and C grade movie aimed at the front benchers.

It’s just not small budget producers resorting to such gimmicks, we have popular banners giving their productions an attractive name for example..Chintakayala Ravi…software engineer starring Venkatesh , Pelli Kaani Prasad with Naresh and Venu Madhav’s home banner making two films in a row i.e Premabishekam..veediki cancer ledhu and Sagara Sangamam….veediki dance raadhu.

Not many can forget the public spat between Mohan Babu and  KS Rama Rao when the former called the producer a ‘silly fellow’.  A vernacular journalist immediately rushed to the Film Chamber to register the title and had the audacity to offer the Silly Fellow title for a price to Mohan Babu.

Many producers first register the title even before they have a concept in mind and some have an idea as to what movie they need to make and buy titles when nothing creative strikes them. The price ranges anywhere between 1,500 to 10,000Rs depending on it’s appeal and popularity. If it’s in tune with the contemporary situation then there is more demand for it. Some are abusive like Donga Satchinollu, some are lengthy like Na anevaalu okarunte chaalu and some are really crazy like Suryakantham..she is crazy and Katti Ramdas..etti dimpaadu. Bommana Brothers Chandana Sisters..shopping kellaru has already completed shoot.

Around 76 titles have been registered at the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC), and there is little doubt that all of them will go to floors this year. Some interesting ones are as follows, Thaali kadithe 90 kotlu, Mosagallaki Monagadu, Yes Balu Balakrishna ki yama fan, 7, Rathimanmadha.com, Ammama.com, Padaharanala Telugu Juliet (a line from a popular film song), Oh My friend, Local..satta choopistha, Idi..asallu katha, Gokul Chat (you know why it became popular), Bio data, Badrachalam Brothers, Appal Raju..software engineer, Avakai Biryani and so on.  Titles suggesting that the lead character is useless still seems to hold attention like Idiot, Pokiri and now this year we will be treated to NTR starrer Kantri
