Excessive usage is one reason for the shortage . Farmers cite since the last two months it has been acute. The cost for phosphate is not working out for the farmers. For those who are into organic farming, there is a shortage of organic phosphate too.

That algae (you can see the green kind of small plants) surrounded by the rice plant will collect Nitrogen from the environment and supplies to rice plant.

The labourers are migrating every day into the cities. They earn around 200 rs for four/five hours in the city which is far more lucrative. If they toil in the field from morning to night, all they get is 100 rs. Those who are going to the fields have started taking holidays, they don’t work on sundays, festivals off and a farmer says they are in a better position than the rythu. They even get subsidised rice and are weaning from agriculture to rural employment schemes. The excessive usage of fertilisers, pesticides are prompting the soil to undergo many changes. To beat this problem of shortage of labour, farmers have already converted 25 acres of land to growing eucalyptus in mallavaram, domallpally and prakasam district.
