The MTP Act should be changed

It sounds very crude but i was happy for Mrs Mehta when she suffered an abortion. The papers said that god saved them, answered their prayers, showed them a way. I identify with their problem because my best friend had an abnormal child and the girl passed away suddenly after 13 years. one requires more than finances to bring up a child. The mental strength my pal had was astounding, there must be for sure some questions on their mind, What about the girl after the parents, will her siblings and their family look after the immobile child  with the same love and understanding? Will they spend on the medicines for the physiotherapy or what ever treatment prescribed for the rest of the life?

Once the child is born, you cannot seperate yourself from him/her but one can avoid causing discomfort for both the child and the parents in the gestation period when they know that the baby is going to be born with severe abnormalities and uncertainty of life. I feel aborting a baby should be a matter of personal choice and the prerogative of the parents concerned. Someone rightly said that the law and social ethics should not govern such personal decisions. So just like having a baby, aborting one should be a personal choice.

  2. Abortion is a tough but sometimes necessary decision. I personally had the similar situation and it is a tough but best for everyone decision. As usual Indian Justice system is trying to force so much furor on such a petty issue while 1000 of clinics are illegally performing ultra sounds followed by feticides, if they find that it will be a girl. Shame on them…Shame on the system.

  3. may i know who is mrs.mehta.

  4. hmm…..abortion is a thorny topic the scope of which is much bigger than this blog. Abortion is essentially terminating a life or in a blunt way “Killing” a defenseless life. Abortion is basically a big cross to bear for the rest of ones life, so its a extremely sensitive issue.

There needs to be specific limits on the who, where and why an abortion can be done. We as a country have some people who lack very needed social ethics which manifests itself in the girl child infanticide. What is to say if this decision were upto such kind of parents then there wouldn’t be gross misuse of this ? having a slightly deformed hand or leg can be a big abnormality for some ? having a crooked nose, face can be abnormality for some…..so who decides ? the same kind of people who abort girl babies ?

If such kind of people are given total choice then pretty soon babies will become a commodity in our ever increasingly status obsessed society, Where anything not perfect and not better than the other ppl would not be acceptable.

The parents definitely should have more say in this issue, but government shouldn’t be completely out of it either.

Like the law says a hundred criminals can go free but even one innocent person should not be prosecuted, same way even if one baby is unjustifiably aborted then its failure of a society.
