Youth in politics

Many politicians say that there is need for the youth to join politics. Do you think the youth should join? Most of them don’t have money, goons or a famous family to back them. When education, a career is the dire need, throwing away precious time hanging around the corridors of power hoping that some day they will become a neta seems ellusive. Probably Rahul Gandhi,  or PJR’s son or Jyotiradtiya, suhasini maniratnam’s son (heard he’s nurturing an ambition 2 join politics)  have a famous lineage/backing and for them it might be easy. For others all this has one single route. Money 2 gain power and power 2 gain money. Any young man wanting to have a good life and a better country will be dissapointed as winning a poll is not so easy. The formula is always hook or crook!

I have known people, who have degrees in soft ware but have fallen in debts to contest, get into a party. when someone’s ambition in life is to own a bike/car or atleast get a job which enables them to pay their monthly bills, will he ever be able to do all these things if the moment he passes out from a univ, joins a political party?

  1. I think this is a very valid point Sunita Garu.

Frankly speaking, what Sr. NTR did was right.

Like he gave tickets to people who were 35 i.e. folks who became famous in their fields like lawyers, doctors etc. These guys already would have made money, have had a settled family life and have the necessary physical and mental faculties to serve the society.

  2. Youth in politics for what? All those vruddha jambookams cant do the labor work. So, they need youth to the work! he he :)

  3. Sunitha,

Throughout world, youth in politics is not the people who are in 20s, they are people who are in late 30 s and early forties. I personally think that is the age where most of the people have balance view of life and more matured having worked hard and with a family. If youth is really interested in politics, they can support in campaign in of whatever party they believe in and i personally do not like to see people in 20s leading my state or country. I want them to achieve something before they join politics or thinking of serving people. That is where Chiru, NTR differ from CBN and YSR. Latter 2 indulged in politics since their early days and more looking for power than to serve people. If you look at the most of decent politicians we have (though very few) in our country, most of them have some kind of successful carrier other than politics in their early life.

  21. Ravindra Garu/Sunita Garu,

I dont think giving tickets to lawyers, doctors or other established professionals makes any difference. It did not even when Sr NTR experimented. Just because they have a lot of money, it does not stop them from wanting more. A lot of these successful lawyers and doctors became terribly corrupt once in power. And despite their fancy degrees, never came closer to solving systemic problems than their educationally less well endowed colleagues. Even in Parliament, the Harvard brigades contribution has been very minimal on core issues of importance - apart from of course making pompous speeches.

  22. dsamanth: well said.

  23. Vicky
