Yes, they need reservation. The current socio-economic conditions in India don’t offer a level playing field for Women, SCs, STs to compete at the same level as other castes. The opressed needs a helping hand, a small push – it’s our responsibility. Without that, they will for ever remain opressed.

I am not saying that the reservation system in its present form is perfect. It definitely has many flaws. Yes, ideally it should be based on Financial status and not Caste. Infact, the fundamental objective of the reservation system is to help the poor and downtrodden in the society. So why then didn’t they use financial status as a metric? Why do you think they went with the caste? Do you think that the constitution writers are not as sane as a common man on the road?
The problem boils down to ‘measuring the financial status’ of an individual. Based on what?? Tax returns? The rich merchants in my village never paid any tax. White ration card?..haha..I don’t want to comment on that. Irony is that it’s easier for a wealthy person to produce a ‘financial distress’ certificate for himself. It’s all the more difficult for a really poor person coz he can’t influence the system which issues them. So it’s back to square one.
Measuring financial condition is a relevant but not reliable. There is always a trade-off between these two. The more relevant the info, the less reliable it is and vice versa. In the real world, we need find a fine balance somewhere in between.
So what’s the next best alternative? Obviously caste. It’s a close proxy for financial status in the olden days. And no upper caste person would like to be seen himself associated with them. So there is no chance of cooking the books.
It has actually worked very well in those initial days. But this system has outlasted its time. It needs to be revamped before it gets exploited by our cheap politicans for their vote bank politics. It requires honest and risk taking administration. But then, it’s not going to be as easy as proposing a simplistic solution that reservations should be based on financial condition of an individual.

the number of bc, obc, sc, st (and all others who want to get some reservation) is any day “more” than the so called agra varnalu.
overtime, the size of backward population will contniue to grow, as many xBC’s will get added to the list. You know, its a stack. The FIFO concept doesnt work there. Niether does the LIFO. Its all a gunny bag of votes.
So, the vote politics will never let reservations to die.

sometime back, week published a research article, in which it proved that the forwards castes are still the leaders on various fronts in India. Ofcourse, the leadership is achieved thru merit & not just being the forward castes.
So, till they screwup the private sector with reservations, it looks ok.. or as someone said earlier, we get used to it.
This is so pathetic and hypocrisy at its peak.!! We Love living in Gutter and no one can change it. If we are not helping ourselves, who else can.??
Why do we need reservations, even if we need it how about we reserve according to their financial status rather than caste, religion, gender or anything else for that matter. The whole point of reservation is to make sure they get better chances to compete with other ppl in life.
So the beneficieries will take their turn for some more centuries and then so on and so forth.?? how about planning to “make India better place to live”.

Women reservation is already present in education and employement system in our country. Currently they extended it for legislative body. So if want to become a politician you have to complain about this new 33% reservation.
