Movie Review: Kuberulu

Kuberulu appears to be a comedy at first glance but that is rather deceiving. In fact, it would’ve played a lot better if it had been more serious in tone. The film begins rather strangely, a big time goon Siva Prasad’s follower loots a treasure trunk containing the Nizam’s jewels but is shot by the police. Before he is cornered by the cops, he takes images, of the place and the colony in which he hides the treasure, in a cell phone and passes on the message to his boss. The cell phone has apparently been snatched from a passer by Farzana. The scene shifts to a village where a vagabond Sivaji who is a die-hard fan of chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy wants to contest the Panchayat elections and is seen most of the time imitating or idolizing his hero.

Sivaji had already wasted his property but is confident that he’ll tide over the crisis. He along with Ali and Krishna Baghwan discover that Farzana is being blackmailed by Siva Prasad. The thief has Farzana’s brother in his custody and will relieve him only when she helps him find the lost cell phone. The rest of the story is about how the trio pass through ordeals to discover the place where the treasure has been hidden. Story apart there are many sub-plots woven around the small time comedians. There is a poorly written satire on blood bank and hardly evokes laughter. Farzana has clearly put on weight and her dialogues are wooden. Sivaji however in his usual sprightly style delivers the goods. It’s a monotonous role for Telangana Sakuntala and the poker faced MS Narayana. The first half is okay but post interval there is not much of character development or story. After a while the story becomes an incessant narration to connect the audiences into the plot. The director tries his best to entertain but can’t triumph over the lackluster script.

Perplexing isn’t it? The talk is Dasari promised madam through YSR that he will keep away Chiru from politics. In return he got a ministership and plenty of autonomy over other things but the moment he couldn’t succeed in keeping up his word, he was removed. He still continues to be in the Cong hoping some day he would be accommodated, he has no choice either. He can never join PRP because both of them will not be able to handle massive ego clashes. The nature of being a politician brings with it a certain amount of necessary and inescapable deceit. Another young man who bears the same surname has more or less similar qualities like him is Dasari Kiran. I have published his interview earlier ‘chiru is my hero, jagan is my leader’ and many visitors didn’t want such stories to be published. The purpose is to give the readers a chance to understand their insight.

Now I make a small attempt to show how Dasari Kiran allegedly misused Chiru’s name, image to prosper to further his chances of becoming a politician. A source analyses the dramatic rise of this aspiring MLA on a Cong ticket, how he promised Jagan that he will convert Chiru fans’ votes into Cong support. Is Kiran still loyal to Chiru? Will Jagan keep him if he doesn’t get the votes? (to follow)

My colleague says our politicians sit in the cricket stadium and watch indo-pak matches from dawn to dusk, till the last ball is bowled. If Vilasrao Deshmukh only took the initiative, sat in a tent for those three consecutive days atleast for a few hours, taking the charge, he would have instilled courage in the commandos, confidence in the citizens. But no this man took his own sweet time to take the site seeing trip with RGV.

A regular visitor of this blog Pandu has been helping five students studying in the Borabanda Yuva Centre run by Dr Reddy’s Foundation. He has been sending money regularly an amount of Rs 1,825 for these five students for the bus pass based on the request we placed on this blog for support. These five students work in a software company as office boys and watchmen during the night and go to school in the mornings. They are in the tenth standard.

My thanks to Praveen, Vijay Prakash and lakshmikanth for helping Pragnya, Ramineni Satish and Deepak Teja. Who are in the final year of study in their respective courses.
